When deciding on buying a Fitbit, the choice of which Fitbit to buy can be overwhelming. Here is a guide on which Fitbit is right for you.
The first step is to figure out what exactly do you need it for:
- step counting
- sleep tracking
- heart rate monitor
- work out mode
- smart watch functionality
- points for Discovery Vitality
Fitbit Flex 2
The Fitbit flex 2 is one of the most simple Fitbits, it does not have a screen so this limits its functionality. The Flex 2 counts steps, has auto sleep tracking and automatically detects workouts. The biggest pro of the Flex 2 is that it is waterproof.
Fitbit Alta HR
This slimline Fitbit is great for those who do not want to wear a chunky watch. It has a thin screen so that you can use it as a watch whilst monitoring your movements. It is also equipped for heart rate measurements, allowing you to get extra points for Discovery Vitality. However, on the Alta HR there is no workout selection. This means that you have to rely on the auto workout recognition for when you are exercising and you cannot set it for the exact workout you are doing.
Fitbit Charge 2
This is my top pick as the Charge 2 can do it all. The Charge 2 is thicker than the Alta HR but has greater functionality. It monitors steps, heart rate, sleep, and auto detects workouts. The Charge 2 is programmed with different work out options. This allows you to see detailed workout statistics during and after your workout. By manually setting your workout, the correct stats are collected for it and this works out to you being rewarded a greater amount of Discovery Vitality points. If you are looking mainly to get Discovery Vitality points, then this is the watch for you. It also has other features such as guided breathing sessions and comments on sleep stages.
The Ionic is Fitbit's first attempt at a smart watch. The Ionic has a built in GPS which is a great extra feature! Because of its smart watch functionality you can load Apps and music onto the watch. If you are looking for a more sophisticated smart watch which is a whole lot more than a fitness tracker, the Ionic is the way to go. However, these additional features comes with a heavy price tag.
New* Fitbit Versa
A new Fitbit is about to be released and it is the Versa. The Versa will fall somewhere between the Ionic and the Charge 2. It will have smart watch capabilities though these will be limited. It does not have a built in GPS but it can connect to your phone's GPS (the charge 2 also does this). Certain Apps will be available for the Versa and music can be loaded onto the device. This Fitbit is coming in at a much lower price than the Ionic so it promises to be a hit!
Don't forget that all the above mentioned Fitbits have removable straps. The silicone straps that come with the Fitbits are clumsy and unattractive and begin to smell over time. Rather replace it with a stylish strap from Fabulously Fit and get all the benefits of having a Fitbit without compromising on style.
